The increase, based on an inflation rate of 2.8% recorded in 2021, took effect on Wednesday.

The provincial government indicates that the minimum wage applies regardless of how employees are paid.

It specifies that tip employees such as servers must be paid the regular minimum wage rate, in addition to their tips.

This increase remains insufficient if you consider the standard of living in Greater Vancouver and Victoria, where the minimum living wage exceeds $ 20 an hour, according to experts.

In British Columbia, the minimum wage sees annual increases every June 1, with a jump of $3 in five years.
