Calviño acknowledges "resistance" to lower food prices and rules out new measures for now

MADRID, 17 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, has acknowledged this Monday that there is "resistance" to lowering the price of food, but has indicated that it is not something "exclusive" of Spain, since it It is a "generalized" problem in all economies, especially in Europe.

"This resistance is our main concern at this time because it precisely affects the well-being of Spanish families," Calviño stressed in statements to TVE collected by Europa Press.

Asked if the Government plans to adopt new measures that impact the price of food, Calviño has insisted that the measures that have already been implemented "still have a long way to go."

"There is aid for the sector and also that 200-euro check for middle-class families, which is already beginning to be paid by the Tax Agency. In other words, these measures still have a way to go," he insisted.

Likewise, Calviño recalled that some large distribution chains have made "positive" announcements of price drops.

The vice-president also hopes that the cheaper energy and inputs of the agri-food sector "will be transferred as soon as possible to the final consumer."

"This will allow us to continue advancing in the direction of facing the impact of the war in the best possible way, as we have been doing in the rest of the economy and with inflation in general. We have a package of measures that runs until June. These are measures that have a significant fiscal impact and still have a long way to go," he concluded.
