MADRID, 25 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, has reproached the PP for its star measures of massive tax cuts, starting "with those aimed at the rich", "they have taken the British Government ahead" that until a few days ago it was directed by Liz Truss.

"They started with the magical realism of saying that lowering taxes raises revenues and they have seen how their star measures of massive tax cuts, starting with the rich, have taken the British government ahead," Calviño replied to the PP spokesman in the Senate, Javier Maroto.

Faced with this, today it is beginning to be known, according to Calviño, that the new British government is going to take measures "opposite those of the Popular Party". The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, has recognized that his predecessor in Downing Street, Liz Truss, made "mistakes" in his scarce seven weeks in office and has promised that he will work to win the trust of citizens, although they will be necessary "difficult" decisions in the medium term.

Calviño has thus responded to Maroto, who has criticized the "failed" economic forecasts of the Government, as well as the fact that there are too many companies that are questioning the real execution of European funds. "Is he really not going to criticize himself for his mismanagement where we see fudges and last-minute fixes as we are seeing in recent days with Ford and now with Seat?" Maroto asked him.

The first vice president has defended that the Government has been governing for the citizens of the country for four years, taking measures that help families, such as the last approved package of the contingency plan for the winter, which will benefit 40% of the population.

In total, the Executive has already mobilized 33,000 million euros to support citizens at this complex time resulting from the war in Ukraine. "You have systematically voted against all the measures that are good and positive for Spanish citizens," the Government's financial officer reproached the PP.

Thus, the vice president stressed that inflation is being contained thanks to the measures adopted by this government and is now below 9%, "a positive trend for Spanish households that will continue in the coming weeks and months."

In addition, he has indicated that his Department is working with financial institutions so that in the coming weeks there is a catalog of measures to alleviate the situation of families that may be affected by the rapid rise in interest rates on their mortgages, mainly those signed at a variable rate.

On his side, to the criticism of Senator José Manuel Marín Gascón, of Vox, Calviño has responded that "they fill their mouths with the word homeland", but then they vote against everything that benefits citizens.

He has remarked to the senator that the Government is committed to investing in what makes the country stronger, such as physical infrastructure, digital infrastructure, schools, hospitals, natural heritage and cultural heritage, the income of citizens or the human capital. "That is the true wealth of our country and not the current accounts of his friends," he snapped.
