Calviño will meet in March with banks and social agents to evaluate the mortgage agreement

MADRID, 15 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The First Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, plans to meet with banks and social agents on March 9 to evaluate the evolution of the code of good practices to help mortgagees in difficulties.

"Next March 9 I am going to have a meeting with the representatives of the citizens and the representatives of the financial sector, precisely, to see how these measures are being applied and if we have to take additional measures," Calviño indicated in the Congress of Deputies this Wednesday, during the government control session.

The March meeting will not only evaluate how the code of good practice is being applied to help mortgagees, but also other measures such as the free change from variable-rate to fixed-rate mortgages or the code of good practice to improve the treatment of elderly and disabled people.

Calviño has insisted that the Government will adopt the measures it deems most appropriate, but has recalled that mortgage credit conditions have been improving. Therefore, the risk is lower "than what we would have had in past decades.

In this sense, the vice president has asked the parliamentary groups to expedite the processing of the bill to create the Financial Client Defense Authority, since this new body "will have among its functions to monitor compliance with the codes of good practice ".

In any case, Calviño has stressed that the measures adopted by the Executive will be aimed at "maximizing" the positive impact while trying to "avoid" negative collateral effects such as, in this case, generating financial instability.
