China will "fight to the end" to prevent Taiwan from declaring independence, China's defense minister said on Sunday, as tensions grow between Beijing and Washington over the island's fate.

“We will fight at all costs and we will fight until the end. This is the only choice for China,” Wei Fenghe said at the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore.
