CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’île-de-Montréal: a union is concerned about the lack of staff

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is alarmed by the chronic lack of staff at the CIUSSS de l'Ouest-de-l'île-de-Montréal since the beginning of the summer.

Across hospitals and CHSLDs, the union has recorded a shortage of personnel, particularly beneficiary attendants, service aides and food service attendants.

A situation made difficult especially during the last two weekends for users and health personnel in the context of new outbreaks of COVID-19, deplores the same union in a press release made public.

CUPE Local 2881 fears that the situation will worsen during the construction holidays and the month of August, hence, according to him, the urgency to act by offering incentives for the retention of staff.

To do this, the union section is proposing a return to double time for overtime and half-day vacation for people who work overtime shifts.

“For that, it takes willpower as much from the management of the CIUSSS as from the Government of Quebec, and that the measures are negotiated with the unions, which have several other possible solutions to propose”, indicated Fanny Demontigny, president of the CUPE 2881.
