A man in his thirties was seriously injured on Saturday evening after colliding aboard his watercraft with a pleasure boat on the St. Lawrence River near Boucherville, in Montérégie.

It was around 9:30 p.m. that a watercraft traveling on the St. Lawrence River, possibly without navigation lights, collided with a pleasure boat with seven people on board.

"The driver of the watercraft suffered serious lower body injuries, but we do not fear for his life," said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesman Nicolas Scholtus.

On board the boat, two adults suffered minor injuries while the other passengers, four minors and one adult, suffered no injuries.

If the boat has suffered several damages, the watercraft, for its part, is a total loss.

An investigation has been opened to understand the exact circumstances surrounding this accident. The driver of the watercraft, a 32-year-old Montrealer known to authorities, could receive tickets for sailing without a pleasure craft operator card and for boating recklessly under the Marine Act Merchant.

“It is important to navigate at a safe speed to avoid any incident,” reminded Mr. Scholtus.
