Huelva was the province that registered the most contracts until July, with 109,572 signatures

The agriculture sector generated 1,002,867 contracts up to July of this year, which is 26.9% less than those of the first seven months of 2022, and the second lowest figure for the period studied, only surpassed by 978,000. 2013 contracts, according to figures from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) collected by Randstad.
"The reduction in the total number of contracts does not mean a destruction of employment, but is due to the dynamics of indefinite hiring that the new regulations have introduced", they have pointed out from the human resources company.
Regarding the type of contracts, of those signed between January and July of this year, 52% correspond to permanent contracts and 48% to fixed-term contracts, a figure that counteracts with data from the same period of 2022, when permanent contracts accounted for 28%, while temporary contracts accounted for 72%.
Despite the reduction in the volume of contracts, influenced by the labor reform and the irruption of the discontinuous fixed figure, the evolution of affiliation to Social Security in the agriculture sector remained stable in the last year, standing at between 335,000 and 345,000 members.
In fact, the registration volume registered in July was 342,993 professionals, only 0.2% less than a year ago. If the evolution of affiliation since the beginning of 2022 is taken into account, only the drop during the winter months stands out, which from Randstad they attribute "to the seasonality of the sector".
If the signing of contracts by autonomous communities are taken into account, Andalusia was the community with the highest volume of contracting in agriculture, with 48.5% of the total that were signed throughout the country until July, that is, with 486,057 signatures.
It is followed by the Region of Murcia (167,527), Extremadura (71,839), Castilla-La Mancha (68,815), the Valencian Community (56,189), Aragon (38,934), Catalonia (36,856), Castilla y León (21,367), Galicia (12,911 ) and La Rioja (11,839).
With more moderate figures are Navarra (8,200), the Canary Islands (8,139), the Basque Country (5,284), the Community of Madrid (4,261), the Balearic Islands (1,764), Asturias (1,591) and Cantabria (1,026).
By provinces, Huelva (109,572), Jaén (85,600), Seville (80,299), Córdoba (72,966), Badajoz (52,389) and Granada (49,865) stand out.
However, if the variation with respect to the first seven months of 2022 is taken into account, Aragón (13.5%) and Catalonia (1.4%) were the only communities to experience growth in their contracting volumes, while the greatest decreases occurred in the Valencian Community (-40.7%), Extremadura (-33.7%) and Andalusia (-31.1%).
The study carried out by Randstad also shows that the agricultural sector is made up mostly of men, since they accounted for 71.5% of the firms registered up to July and women only 28.5%.
Regarding the age of the contract signatories in the sector during the summer, close to half (48%) are between 25 and 45 years old, while the other largest segment is that of those over 45 years of age (36, 4%), followed by those under 25 (15.6%).
On the other hand, the decrease in total hiring compared to last year was similar between the different age segments, with a 28% drop among workers between 25 and 45 years of age, 27% less among those over 45 and 22% less among those under 25.
