Rogers, Shaw and Quebecor have until today to conclude their agreement regarding the sale of Freedom Mobile, a provider of wireless telephone services with a clientele established mainly outside Quebec.
While Rogers initially hoped to get its hands on Shaw for $26 billion, the federal government vetoed the spectrum and mobile telephony portion of the deal, embodied by Shaw-owned Freedom.
Quebecor came into the picture last month with a $2.85 billion bid, a deal that would allow it to expand its reach outside of Quebec.
The takeover of Shaw by Rogers has already been approved by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), but is pending a response from the Competition Bureau.
