The promotion came a year after the National League team signed the 34-year-old. She previously held a position in the player development team.

“In just one year, Meghan has already proven what a valuable asset she is to our hockey operations department, due to her work ethic and expertise. She will thrive with the new responsibilities of her role,” Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald said in a statement.

Duggan retired as a hockey player in October 2020, having won 11 medals (eight gold and three silver) with the U.S. Women's National Squad. She was also the captain of the United States at the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and Pyeongchang in 2018.

The Devils have several young talents among their ranks, including Jack Hughes and Dawson Mercer.

“Supporting the development of our players from the moment they join our organization and guiding their individual journeys to become successful NHL players is paramount. We have an evolving young core in New Jersey. They're about to take another leap forward and we'll have some exciting talent coming in."

In the next draft of the Bettman circuit, the Devils hold the second overall pick.
