According to radio station TSN 1260, the Alberta organization would like to forecast its budget in anticipation of the 2022-2023 campaign and the decision of the 38-year-old player will influence the way forward. The former Chicago Blackhawks will allow the Oilers to free up more than $5.5 million if he chooses retirement; his pact is still valid for one year.

Acquired from the Hawks on July 12, 2021, Keith had 21 points, including 20 assists, in 64 games during the last regular season, while maintaining a differential of 15. He added five points in 16 playoff games.
