Bryan McCormick received his sentence at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse after pleading guilty to domestic violence charges.

The accused had no history of a crime against the person. "The courts are ready to put forward the deterrent factors even for individuals who have not faced the firm detention", noted the prosecutor Me Fanny-Dubois Grondin, Wednesday at QUB radio. Her guilty plea was still a mitigating factor.

"A guilty plea in a case like this is a relief for the victims who do not have to relive the events, to relate in detail everything that happened," he said. she explained to Marc-André Leclerc.

His message comes the day after the controversy surrounding the absolution of an engineer from Trois-Rivières accused of sexual assault and voyeurism.

The Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) has announced that he will appeal this case.

The DPCP wishes to humanize the legal process in each case of domestic violence, also indicated Ms. Grondin.

“The idea is to individualize the sentence and you always have to come back to that. All serious acts must be denounced and I am confident for the future in domestic violence cases!”

A highly publicized case

Ms. Grondin also returned to the popularity of the file, since the influencer Élisabeth Rioux is followed by 1.6 million people on Instagram. She assures that it does not change anything in the judicial process.

"For us, whether it's a high-profile case with known people or not, it remains a neutral factor.

The processing of the file will remain the same. For example, in domestic violence cases, there is a specific procedure to follow and this, each time.

However, she reminds us that we must be very careful with the use of social networks so as not to interfere with the procedures.

“The latter must pay attention to the comments and what they publish on their platforms”.
