Escrivá believes that the "challenge" in the face of the current crisis is to maintain the purchasing power of citizens

TARRAGONA, Oct. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, stated this Thursday that the "challenge" in the face of the current crisis is to maintain the purchasing power of citizens or mitigate its decline as much as possible with the focus on the most vulnerable .

He said it during his speech 'Policies to achieve inclusive growth in times of uncertainty' within the framework of the XXI Gresol Conference that is being held this Thursday in Shed 1 of the Moll de Costa in the Port of Tarragona.

Faced with an environment that he has described as "increasingly uncertain", Escrivá has defended that public policies must foster harmonization between economic growth and social cohesion in order to reduce inequalities and provide "certainties that compensate" for the current context.

The head of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration considers that achieving broad consensus brings certainty to public policies because these understandings indicate that the actions that are promoted "will endure over time."

He has assured that the Spanish pension system is "reasonably equitable and supportive", although he has clarified that it probably has room for improvement, and has argued that with the rise in pensions it will be possible to maintain the purchasing power of pensioners.

The minister highlighted the "extraordinary" results of the labor reform, which has led to an increase in indefinite contracts among Catalans affiliated with Social Security: they have gone from 74% to 85% in the global calculation and from 52% to 75 % among those under 30 years of age.

"Spain had an unusual level of job insecurity and temporality", said the minister, which, in his opinion, generated great inequity and great problems, for which one of the Government's lines of action has been to put an end to this temporality .

Finally, he has claimed the resilience capacity in Spain which, according to him, has been the country that has grown the most in terms of employment since the pandemic and has maintained that the current crisis is taking place "without job destruction".
