The European organization for the safety of air navigation, Eurocontrol, has warned this Friday of possible controller strikes this summer.

Eurocontrol has informed through a statement collected by Bloomberg that the union representing the workers of its center of operations have already warned about these strikes, which could be called in a period of six months, without a specific date.

Eurocontrol is headquartered in Brussels (Belgium) and has offices in Maastricht (The Netherlands), Brétigny (France) and Luxembourg.

This "pre-alert", as Eurocontrol has described it, would come at the height of the summer season. The body has assured that it is beginning to negotiate with the workers to try to prevent the strike from finally being called.

The call for a strike would add to the imbalances that air traffic in Europe is already experiencing due to the successive general strikes in France, the warnings of strikes by airlines and the lack of personnel suffered by agents in the sector due to the recovery of traffic after the pandemic.

In this sense, from Eurocontrol they point out that this summer operations at European airports are expected to be more agile than last year, but this balance could be affected by the controllers' strike.

The British newspaper 'The Times', through a source in the sector, has indicated that this strike could affect some 12,600 daily flights throughout Europe, a third of the 33,000 flights expected in Europe for July and August.
