Fate continues to hang over Stephen Strasburg

Fate continues to hang over Stephen Strasburg. The Washington Nationals pitching ace is back on the injured list after a return to play that lasted just one game.

Nats manager Dave Martinez made the announcement on Monday. Strasburg was supposed to start his second game of the campaign on Tuesday, but he felt discomfort during a training session on Saturday.

The 33-year-old athlete made his only start of the season on June 9, against the Miami Marlins, who was previously still recovering from surgery he underwent in 2021.

Strasburg looked pretty bad against the Marlins, ultimately allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks, in just four and two-thirds innings, in a 7-3 loss.

The Gunner hasn't been spared injury since winning the World Series MVP honors in 2019. In fact, he's only been on the mound for 31 1/3 innings since the start of the 2020 campaign, the season in which his seven-year contract, worth $245 million, came into effect. The third year of this agreement therefore ends in 2022.
