No less than 50 million travelers entered Canada in 2022, four times more than the previous year.

This was announced by the CBSA in its 2022 report and highlights released on Tuesday.

With 1,200 entry points, Canada was targeted by millions of visitors, representing a 267% increase from 2021.

Of this number, there are 112,027 Ukrainians and 24,072 Afghans.

Faced with the increase in the number of travelers, the CBSA announced that it had seized a significant quantity of drugs, including 2,662 kg of cocaine, 339 kg of heroin, 4 kg of fentanyl and 298,051 kg of tobacco.

“Over the past year, the Canada Border Services Agency has made great strides in protecting our borders while ensuring the flow of trade and travel,” commented the Honorable Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Public Security.

In addition, the Agency prevented more than 1,009 firearms smuggling compared to 908 in 2021 from ending up on the streets this year, an increase of 11% compared to last year.

The CBSA also made 25 child pornography seizures and issued 952 penalties totaling $784,800 for food, plant and animal importation violations.
