Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime was eliminated in his first match at the Wimbledon tennis tournament on Tuesday in London.

Auger-Aliassime was surprised by the American Maxime Cressy, 45th racket in the world, in four sets of 6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (9) and 7-6 (5).

Occupying ninth place in the ATP rankings, Auger-Aliassime, 21, was nevertheless the sixth seed in the prestigious competition on grass.

It must be said that Cressy is going through a happy streak in England, having reached the final of the Eastbourne tournament last weekend.

The loss of the third set, after a long tiebreaker, particularly hurt the Quebecer. Auger-Aliassime also lost the fourth set in the same way.

Bianca Andreescu absolutely intractable

Canadian Bianca Andreescu made a brilliant comeback to the Wimbledon tennis tournament, winning 6-1, 6-3 against American Emina Bektas on Tuesday.

The winner was ruthless for the 85th player in the world, whom she defeated in just 55 minutes.

Holder of the 56th level of the WTA ranking, Andreescu won 91% of the points disputed on her first serve and faced only one break point. Meanwhile, her rival has conceded the break five times in 10 occasions. Proof of her dominance, she had the upper hand 28 to 11 for total winning strokes.

In the next round, the Ontarian will face Kazakh Elena Rybakina, who is ranked 65th in singles.

Shapovalov wins

On the men's side, Ontario's Denis Shapovalov, 16th in the world, had more success than Félix Auger-Aliassime, who was eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon.

Shapovalov nevertheless struggled before defeating Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, 62nd in the world, in five sets of 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-7 (4), 6-4 and 6-1. By being a little more opportunistic, the Canadian would indeed have had the task easier, he who, after all, won 30 points against 20 in this game. He mostly dominated the first and fifth sets.

In the second round, Shapovalov will face American Brandon Nakashima, holder of the 56th place in the ATP rankings.
