Ford patents a technology to remotely turn off the radio or air conditioning of defaulters

MADRID, 3 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The automobile company Ford has patented a technology that will allow it to remotely turn off the radio or air conditioning, or prevent the entry into the vehicle of those users who do not comply with their car payments on time, according to 'Bloomberg'.

Among other functions, the multinational could disable the 'cruise control' or the windows, the accelerator, the engine, emit an "incessant and unpleasant" beep or lock the doors directly. "These functions could cause an additional level of discomfort for the driver and the occupants of the vehicle," reads the patent sheet.

After the lull experienced during the pandemic, auto loan delinquencies slowly rebounded to their highest point since 2006 this January, according to Cox Automotive.

The use of similar technologies to encourage payment is not new, but the new patent contemplates that, in the case of autonomous vehicles, the car moves by itself to a "more convenient" place to be towed.

However, Ford has assured that it has no plans to make use of this technology, and affirms that registering a patent "is not indicative of a new line of business".
