Ford will lay off about 1,100 workers from the Almussafes factory (Valencia)

VALENCIA, 10 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The management of Ford Spain has informed the unions this Friday that the Employment Regulation File (ERE) planned in the Almussafes factory (Valencia) will affect approximately 1,100 employees.

This has been transferred this Friday to the negotiating committee with which the company has begun the consultation period to apply the ERE, after announcing on March 3 the opening of said period.

Production of the S-Max and Galaxy models is scheduled to cease in April of this year because the multinational is accelerating its strategy towards the total electrification of its passenger vehicles in 2030 and of its entire portfolio in 2035.

Thus, the Almussafes factory will be left with the production of only the Kuga, the currently heaviest, until the manufacture of the new electric ones.

The Almussafes factory was chosen to produce the new GE2 electric vehicle platform from 2025, a decision that ensured the workload for years to come.

Although the award of the new electric vehicles meant guaranteeing the future of the factory, the company's management advanced that the transformation of production would mean downsizing the workforce because the manufacture of electric vehicles requires less manpower.
