“As the President had the opportunity to say, we wish victory for Ukraine. We want Ukraine's territorial integrity to be restored,” the Elysee Palace said, responding to questions raised by a call from President Emmanuel Macron to “not humiliate Russia.”

"We want this conflict, this war of Russia against Ukraine, to end as soon as possible and for negotiations to begin that will not only restore Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty, but also take take into account a number of other very important elements such as transitional justice (on war crimes committed by the Russians, editor's note), such as the payment of war damages, etc. ”, hammered the Élysée.

Emmanuel Macron's statements had cast a shadow over the position of France, suspected by some Eastern European allies of wanting above all to obtain a ceasefire in the conflict, at the risk of accepting certain conquests Russian territories.

Other Europeans, from the British to the Baltic states, are calling for increased Western military support for Ukraine to help it win victory, rejecting any territorial concessions to Russia, including over Crimea.

“The military conquest of foreign territories cannot be accepted under any conditions,” insisted the Élysée.

"We are simply saying that Ukraine must be victorious in this affair and that, moreover, we must find the means for a peace which will be negotiated with respect for international law, for the sovereignty of Ukraine", added an adviser to President Macron.

France is ready to participate in an "operation" to lift the blockade of the port of Odessa (southern Ukraine) and to export Ukrainian cereals to countries in need, in conjunction with the United Nations, also noted the French presidency.

"We are at the disposal of the parties so that, basically, an operation is put in place which would allow access to the port of Odessa in complete safety, that is to say to be able to allow boats to pass despite the fact that the sea is mined,” a presidential adviser said.

It is necessary that "these grains exported from Odessa can go to the markets where they are expected at reasonable and practical prices, in particular for African countries", he underlined.

Russian President Vladimir Putin gave his "consent" for such an operation during an interview with Emmanuel Macron on May 28, recalled the Elysee, noting that an initiative in this direction from Russia and Turkey this week however, was unsuccessful.

France pleads for a Security Council resolution. The Russians and the Turks do not say they are opposed to it, noted the Elysée.

"The United Nations must be at the center of the game because only they can put all the elements together, both secure access to Odessa, give a mandate to inspect the boats going to Odessa and then plan, through the "Farm initiative, the role of United Nations agencies etc... the distribution of grain under acceptable conditions for those who need it", noted the Elysée.
