Frigid wind chills on the way, followed by warm weekend

The wind has finally calmed down, but don't be fooled by the calm, quiet weather conditions across New Jersey.

Forecasters say it will start feeling like winter again as the week progresses, with wicked winds swooping in bringing in single-digit wind chills, only to be followed by a weekend warmup.

Two storm systems moving across the country on Wednesday -- one to the north of New Jersey and one to the south -- could brush parts of North Jersey with brief snow showers and South Jersey with some light rain, said Dean Iovino, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service's regional forecast office in Mount Holly.

After the storms move away and bring heavy snow to New England, cold and blustery conditions will be hitting the Garden State on Thursday, with winds gusting up to 30 mph and wind chills dropping into the single digits, according to forecasters from AccuWeather and the National Weather Service.

A lovable Valentine's Day weather forecast

Cold air will linger on Friday, but then the February roller coaster ride will resume with a noticeable warmup, with sunny skies and daytime highs reaching 50 on Saturday and making a run for 60 degrees on Sunday.

Although there will be some daily fluctuations, the overall trend during the next week or two is shaping up to be a weather pattern with above-normal temperatures.

"It doesn't look very encouraging for the snow people," Iovino said.

However, the meteorologist holds out hope that New Jersey could get another snowstorm  before winter bids farewell.

"Even though it's gonna be mild, perhaps into next week, we still have the rest of February and March to get through," Iovino said. "Climatologically, there will be some opportunities for snow."
