The president of the Federation of Automotive Dealer Associations (Faconauto), Gerardo Pérez, has decided not to present an alternative candidacy to that of Antonio Garamendi to preside over the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE).

Pérez, in a statement, pointed out that during the last few weeks he had been "assessing the possibility" of presenting a candidacy that would fight against that of Garamendi, who is running for re-election as head of the employers' association, "after having received requests from numerous important employers' sectoral and territorial associations".

"I have considered this possibility because I believe that we are facing a decisive moment for the CEOE and for all the businessmen of our country", explained the head of Faconauto, who indicated that from the first moment he valued this possibility "as long as could bring about a change in CEOE".

Among the changes desired by Pérez for the employers are achieving the full participation of all the organizations that make up the organization for decision-making, as well as "reestablishing the reputation" of businessmen as the main engine for the creation of wealth and well-being of the society.

"I have always believed that the role of CEOE must be understood as a key social agent for the necessary transformation of the country, he added, while advocating for recovering CEOE's ability to influence decision-making that affects businessmen, "by margin of ideologies and external pressures".

However, the businessman pointed out that, after evaluating it "rigorously, seriously and honestly", he has chosen to reject the possibility of running for president of the CEOE and confirmed that he will continue to defend these lines of work as a member of the organization and President of Faconauto.
