MADRID, 21 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Federation of Automotive Dealership Associations (Faconauto), Gerardo Pérez, assured this Friday that he is "seriously" considering presenting his candidacy to preside over the CEOE and that "important sectoral and territorial organizations" have asked him to lead an "alternative" to run the bosses.

"There are important sectoral and territorial organizations that have approached me to ask me to lead an alternative and I am currently evaluating it," Pérez assured in an interview on RTVE's 24-hour channel and collected by Europa Press.

"I am seriously considering that we can reverse this situation that we are experiencing now and that I, within the CEOE bodies, am capable of making room for everyone and making an important change that I think we need", added the maximum responsible for Faconauto, who despite his response has defended that his candidacy is not yet firm.

As for the times that he handles to formalize it or not, Pérez has indicated that the term for presenting candidacies is open until November 8.

The CEOE is currently chaired by Antonio Garamendi, who has been in office since 2018, when he replaced Juan Rosell, and will stand again in the elections that will take place on November 23.

In this sense, the president of Faconauto has highlighted that the objective must be that in the CEOE "decisions can be made in the future that do not have such a negative impact on businessmen as has happened in the past" and also in a way in which all have "a place and all voices are heard".

"I don't see why the possibility of an alternative candidacy has to be something negative. I think it's something very positive because we can create a much more powerful, better and democratic CEOE project for the future," he defended.

Regarding Garamendi's management at the head of the employers' association, Pérez has pointed out that today the figure of the businessman is being "demonized" in a way "as has never happened in the past". "The fact that (businessmen) are being insulted and that measures are also being taken that have gone against the business community, is something that we must reverse as soon as possible," he stressed.

Regarding the possibility that the president of the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (Cepyme), Gerardo Cuerva, also present his candidacy to head the CEOE, Pérez stated that "it is not ruled out" and added which, moreover, "would be desirable".

In this sense, he has emphasized that the fact that there are several candidates is positive because it enriches the organization in the sense that the best of each one can be taken.
