Hairdressers, barbershops and beauty salons demand the refund of reduced VAT in Madrid

MADRID, 24 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Business Alliance for the Lowering of VAT to 10% to the personal image has demanded this Monday through the streets of Madrid the recovery of VAT to 10%, after 10 years of "tax punishment" since it was approved in 2012 exceptionally , and for a limited period of time, the increase in VAT from 8% to 21% to hairdressers and beauty salons, as reported in a statement.

Specifically, the demonstration, which has concluded with a protest in front of the Ministry of Finance, has had the participation of the main federations and associations of the sector at the state, regional and provincial levels such as Aneip, Fanae, Anepe-Impe, Anepe, Fedcat , Eipef, among others, and with the support and coordination of the personal image platform 'Believe in Us'.

The representatives of the personal image sector, under the slogan 'SOS personal image: reduced VAT. General budgets ¡ya!', have traveled the main streets of Madrid with the aim of transmitting to the Ministry of Finance and the PSOE the demand that the recovery of reduced VAT be incorporated into the personal image in the General State Budgets 2023 during its processing.

The sector has recalled that in the PGE of 2022 this claim already had the support of 23 of the 24 political parties with representation in Congress and in the Senate, and it is expected that it will again obtain majority support for the amendments that contemplate it presented by different parties from across the political spectrum.

The personal image sector considers that it is an "urgent measure" to respond to the extreme vulnerability of a sector that continues to be forgotten by the central government when designing the different aid plans against price escalation or the energy crisis , which has made the electricity bill more than 30% more expensive for hairdressing and beauty salons.

At the moment, with runaway inflation, these establishments have suffered an increase in their costs of 27.2%, which is the last straw for a sector that has only yet recovered 79.8% of its pre-pandemic activity and with a turnover compared to that of 2019, which has fallen by 20.2%.

The demonstration, which has brought together thousands of professionals dressed in black from all over Spain, has made it possible to make visible the current "extreme suffering" of the sector and its capacity to resist after two years demanding the restitution of its reduced VAT through the more than 400 rallies and demonstrations integrated into the campaign 'The rebellion of the broken scissors'.

During the protests, shouts such as 'less vetoes and more votes', 'we are workers not collectors', 'the general VAT was temporary' or 'Sánchez, listen this is not your piggy bank', as well as choreographies and chants to call the attention of passers-by who have shown their solidarity and sympathy with this sector.
