On Saturday, Oct. 1, Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley's ReStore is holding a paint collection event from 9 a.m. until noon at its facility, 1053 Grape St. in Whitehall Township. Donations are limited to 15 gallons of latex paint per vehicle.

The paint must be liquid, in the original container and no older than 10 years.

Not being accepted are oil- or solvent-based paints, stains, polyurethane, porch or floor paint, waterproofing paint or specialty paints. Oil-based paints must be collected at household hazardous waste events.

When ReStore announced the program last year, it said it planned to partner with The Paint Exchange LLC, of Rockland, Massachusetts, to recycle the paint into a new paint product called reColor, which will then be resold to ReStore customers. Profits from the sale of reColor will be funneled back into Habitat for Humanity.

Northampton County provided a $35,000 grant to help start the program.
