Iberdrola has closed the sale of three mini-hydro plants in Spain, with a total installed capacity of 35 megawatts (MW), to the Austrian energy company Kelag, in an agreement that also allows the expansion and incorporation of new mini-hydro plants to the current perimeter, reported the company. company.

Market sources indicated to Europa Press that the amount of the operation amounts to around 55 million euros, at a minimum price of around 1.5 million euros per MW.

Kelag is a renowned player in the hydraulic sector thanks to its extensive experience, managing almost 100 of its own hydroelectric plants, as well as important rights to acquire and subscribe for hydroelectric energy with a total installed capacity of 1,500 MW in Austria. This is Kelag's second operation in Spain after acquiring four hydroelectric plants in 2022.

This transaction is part of the non-strategic asset rotation program announced by the group chaired by Ignacio Sánchez Galán for the period 2023-2025 in its strategic plan - which it will update in March at its next Capital Markets Day -, which has already been fulfilled 100% to support the record investment plan of 47 billion euros.

This divestment joins others recently carried out by the energy company, such as the sale of assets in Mexico, as well as the agreements signed and announced with Mapfre, Norges Bank Investment Management, Masdar, bp or Energy Infrastructure Partners.

Kelag, for its part, has the strategy to continue growing in renewable energy projects both nationally and throughout Europe in the coming years.
