MADRID, 8 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) that arrived from Russia to Spain in August represented only 9.8% of the total supply, remaining at 3,322 gigawatts/hour (GWh). Thus, Russia becomes the fourth supplier of natural gas to Spain, with a drop of 26.3% in the imported volume compared to August 2022 and more than 62% compared to July of this year.

According to data from the Gas Statistical Bulletin prepared by Enagás and collected by Europa Press, the United States was the country from which the highest percentage of supply arrived, 32.2%, with 10,896 GWh of liquefied natural gas, 8.2% more than in 2022.

Second place was occupied by Algeria, where 24.5% of the gas came from, divided between 7,800 GWh of natural gas (-14.5%) and 490 GWh of LNG, after no gas was purchased in August 2022. this hydrocarbon.

Likewise, Nigeria took the podium, supplying Spain with 20.3% of its total demand, which represented a total of 6,857 GWh of liquefied natural gas, with a year-on-year increase of 17.5%.

Regarding the security of the system, the filling level of underground storage reached 100% (up to 34,179 GWh) for the first time in history in the month of August. This figure represented a year-on-year increase of more than 14% (29,958 GWh).

Likewise, data from the bulletin show that the demand for natural gas for electricity generation fell by 28.1% in the first eight months of the year compared to the same period in 2022. For its part, conventional (domestic, commercial, industrial and cogeneration) decreased by 5.8%.

Thus, the demand for natural gas between January and August reached 217,585 GWh, remaining 13.7% below the equivalent figure in 2022.
