Khari Jones is disappointed with the outcome

With the team stalling in the standings, the Montreal Alouettes executives ended their association with head coach Khari Jones earlier this week. The American still had it on his heart a few days after his dismissal.

"I'm disappointed with how it ended," Jones said on his Twitter account on Friday. I enjoyed my time as head coach of the Alouettes. We found ways to win when the odds weren't in our favor, we played with passion and fun and fought hard every game.

The 51-year-old had to react quickly in 2019 when he was promoted to Sparrows head coach a week before the start of the campaign. He led the team to a 10-8 record good for second place in the Eastern Conference, but Montreal still lost in the first round of the playoffs.

After a season canceled due to the pandemic, Jones and the Alouettes came back in 2021 going 7-7 but suffering another first-round loss. After watching his troops go just 1-3 this year, general manager Danny Maciocia decided to clean up.

“We reached the playoffs the two years that I was in charge, even without owners, with new owners and several changes. I am so proud of the players on our team,” admitted Jones, who said he would miss walking the streets of Montreal.

Before joining the Alouettes as offensive coordinator in 2018, the former quarterback held the same position with the BC Lions and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was also quarterbacks coach with the Ti-Cats and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
