Labor Inspection unions will go on strike again in May and threaten to make it indefinite

MADRID, 27 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The unions with representation in the Labor and Social Security Inspection have announced this Monday a second phase of mobilizations to protest against the "precarious" situation of the body and the lack of personnel.

After the three strikes held to date, this second phase of mobilizations will also include the call for a new strike for the month of May, which will become indefinite "before the summer" if the Government does not offer solutions.

This union platform, made up of CCOO, CIG, CSIF, Sitss, Sislass and UPIT, has also announced that in May there will also be rallies and demonstrations, as well as lockdowns in workplaces, all with the aim of ensuring that the Government complies with the agreement that he signed with the unions in July 2021 to reinforce and increase the staff of the Inspection.

The unions will formalize next Wednesday at the headquarters of the European Union in Madrid a complaint against the Spanish Government for breaching the July 2021 agreement and "violating" the Charter of Fundamental Rights in terms of collective bargaining.

For the unions, the situation that the Inspectorate is experiencing and the breach of the acquired commitments, demonstrates the "zero political will" on the part of the Government to solve the deficiencies of the Inspection.

The union organizations argue that the previous List of Inspection Jobs dates back more than 20 years, so they ask to comply with the agreement and immediately incorporate the 500 troops that had been promised urgently and, progressively, the rest of the committed personnel.

The union centrals warn that the Inspection is working by the will of its workers, because it really "is in collapse", with "unbearable" working hours, which require working Saturdays and Sundays to meet objectives, and all this "at the cost of health and safety" of your staff.

This is made up of 3,000 troops, of which 2,200 are inspectors and sub-inspectors and the rest are structure personnel, who must attend to 20 million Social Security affiliates, 1.4 million companies and 10 million pensioners.
