The survey results released Thursday show that the main impacts of the labor shortage on workers are an increased workload (61%), a more stressful work climate (49%), longer working hours long hours (45%), greater pressure from the employer not to be absent (43%), few possibilities of adapting the schedule (39%) or of obtaining leave for family reasons (37% ).

"After two years of the pandemic, these difficulties related to the lack of availability of labor add additional pressure on employees," said Diane-Gabrielle Tremblay, professor at the School. from TELUQ University, who participated in the design of the survey.

"Overall, when we compare the results to those of the same survey conducted last year, we see that the proportion of parents and caregivers who say that the balance between family and work is a major source of stress is increase, going from 52% to 56%,” added Ms. Tremblay.

Among the respondents, 68% nevertheless said they were “satisfied” with the support offered by their employer to help them adapt to the changes caused by the pandemic.

For the Executive Director of the Réseau pour un Québec Famille, Corinne Vachon Croteau, these results should be received by employers "as an encouragement to continue to show flexibility and openness", despite the pressure related to the lack of personal.

One in four parents will not take a family vacation

The probe also reveals that one in four parents will not be able to take a vacation at the same time as their family. For the majority of them, it is constraints related to their work (37%) or that of their spouse (15%) that prevents them from doing so. For 19%, the reason is a lack of availability of day camps or daycare services.

The survey was conducted from May 18 to June 7, 2022 among 3,108 Quebec workers who are either parents or caregivers.
