Lagarde (ECB) assures that "she will use all the tools at her disposal" to return inflation to 2%

MADRID, 7 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank (ECB), has assured that the institution she directs will take the necessary measures to bring inflation down to the 2% target, she stated during an event broadcast on LinkedIn.

"We will use all the tools at our disposal and we will do everything that is necessary," Lagarde said in a similar way to "Whatever it takes" pronounced by Mario Draghi, her predecessor in office.

Apart from monetary policy issues, Lagarde has assured that the pandemic has particularly negatively affected women; from the increase in domestic violence around the world, through the higher rates of female unemployment, to school dropout, which has affected girls in greater proportion than their male peers.

Lagarde has also denounced that there are few women in positions of power, both in politics and in business: "It is common that when things get ugly, there are problems, and you run out of options, the 'establishment' says, "Why don't you try a woman? We have nothing to lose," she commented, recalling her years as French Minister of Economy.

Citing various studies and reports, the French woman has defended that the inclusion of women in public life is profitable for the entities and societies that practice it.

Likewise, she has reported that she has always tried to include women in the decision-making processes, echoing the words of the former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, who said that "there is a special place in hell for women who They don't support other women."

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Lagarde has condemned the invasion by Russia as "horrible" and "unjustified" and has praised the courage of the Ukrainian people. "[The conflict] has given Ukrainians the strength and resilience that no one thought they had, perhaps they were not even aware of it themselves," he summed up.
