Lawsuits against Orlando police officer settled for combined $130K

Two recently settled lawsuits against Orlando Police Officer Jonathan Mills will cost the city a combined $130,000, agreements released Wednesday show.

In one case, Clinton Fair, 29, alleged Mills put his hand down the back of Fair’s pants and sexually assaulted him while looking for drugs during a 2014 traffic stop. Fair settled for $80,000, documents show.

In the other, 61-year-old Louis Fedrick accused Mills of slamming him to the ground for no reason. He received $50,000.

Both plaintiffs and the city will pay their own legal fees, according to the terms of the settlements.

The city maintains the settlements are not admissions of wrongdoing on the part of the officer.

Mills said he acted lawfully during both traffic stops.

He has since been reassigned from the Tactical Team to patrol, according to the department.
