Longueuil: the BEI launches an investigation into a police intervention

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) has announced the launch of an investigation into the circumstances of an altercation involving a police officer from the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL) that went wrong.

Around 11:35 p.m. Sunday, SPAL police officers were called to intervene for an altercation between two men armed with sticks, in the parking lot of a business located on Boulevard Cousineau.

After arriving at the scene, a police officer located a 41-year-old man with a stick in his possession. He would have tried to attack the agent, and a physical altercation would have broken out. During this, the forties would have lost consciousness.

“He was taken to a hospital center where he is in serious condition,” the BEI said in its web publication.

Five investigators have been tasked with the case, while a parallel investigation has been entrusted to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which will act as a support police service.
