President Emmanuel Macron's party appears well positioned to remain the top political force in France's National Assembly, but could miss out on an absolute majority, according to early projections of the result of the first round of legislative elections on Sunday.

His formation would collect between 275 and 310 seats according to an Ifop-Fiducial projection and from 255 to 295 according to Ipsos, while the absolute majority is at 289. In votes, the coalition of the centrist president re-elected in April is neck and neck with that of the left, according to these estimates.
