The Parti Québécois demands the appointment of an independent scientific observer for the management of the pandemic, at a time when we are witnessing an increase in cases of COVID-19 in Quebec in the last few days.

It was MPs Pascal Bérubé and Joël Arseneau who made this request by press release on Friday morning.

With the electoral period which will be launched next month, “it is unthinkable that the CAQ and its crisis unit continue to decide behind closed doors on the response to the pandemic in this context”, estimate the PQ deputies.

The appointment of an independent observer would ensure, according to the PQ, a “non-partisan and transparent crisis management for the best interest of all Quebecers”.

"It is absolutely unthinkable that the CAQ with its crisis unit composed mostly of communications experts and political strategists continues to make decisions on the sly to manage the health crisis in the middle of the election period", argued Joël Arseneau, who is the spokesperson for the PQ on health.

The PQ also reiterated its demand that the national director of public health be independent of politics.

“We reiterate our commitment to review the law on public health to ensure complete independence of the national director of public health. It is only by doing this that we will ensure the full transparency of all notices and communications, and this applies as much to COVID-19 as to arsenic in Rouyn-Noranda and nickel in Limoilou,” concluded Joël Arseneau. .
