Opera singer and composer Marc Hervieux was appointed director general of the Conservatoire de musique et d'art dramatique du Québec on Wednesday.

Opera singer and composer Marc Hervieux was appointed director general of the Conservatoire de musique et d'art dramatique du Québec on Wednesday.

In addition, the popular animator will sit on the board of directors of the Conservatory, announced the council of ministers, specifying that the appointment of the new director will be effective from August 22.

The mandate of Mr. Hervieux is for a period of five years.

Having played tenor roles in opera around the world, Mr. Hervieux – himself a graduate of the Montreal Conservatory of Music in 1997 – is currently the host of the “Dolce Vita” program on ICI Musique Classique on Sundays, in addition to to have more than twenty shows on its agenda by the end of the year.

“Marc Hervieux’s profile will allow him to successfully occupy the management functions of the Conservatoire. He is an exceptional person recognized for his artistic vision, his mobilizing leadership and his ability to communicate and inspire, "praised the president of the board of directors of the Conservatoire de musique et d'art dramatique du Québec, Monique F.Leroux.

The government also announced on Wednesday that the latter will remain at the head of the board of directors as president and will continue to work as an independent member of the board for the next two years.

The former president and CEO of Desjardins Group was appointed chair of the Conservatory's board of directors in June 2021.
