The Minister of Industry, Reyes Maroto, has indicated this Monday that the Government "will reinforce investments" to "meet the needs" of the Volkswagen gigafactory in Sagunt (Valencia) and of the set of projects that the company wants to carry out out in Spain.

This was stated during his visit on Monday to the Ford factory in Almussafes (Valencia) in statements to the media, where he explained that this Tuesday the funds awarded in the first call for Perte VEC will be announced.

Maroto wanted to "give confidence" that the Government "will be up to the task of this important project that Volkswagen wants to carry out in Spain and, therefore, will reinforce investments so that, effectively, the gigafactory and the whole of investments that Volkswagen has committed to this Perte are up to Volkswagen's needs".

Thus, it has been "convinced" that if the Government is "more ambitious" with respect to the investment that Volkswagen needs, that project (of the Sagunt gigafactory), which today is a "priority" for the Government and for Volkswagen , it will be done "on time and in form".

Asked if the 700 million euros requested by the company will be provided, she pointed out that the amounts that will be committed "in the first line", the first Perte VEC, "greatly reinforce the Government's commitment to this project", but she has acknowledged that "they are insufficient".

For this reason, he explained that they are working to provide more funds and that "the second line accommodates an important part of the investment", while other instruments are being "analyzed".

Thus, he has indicated that the central government is studying with the Consell the route of regional incentives that the Government finances through the autonomous communities. "It is an instrument that we have also made available to this project in order to reinforce it and meet the expectations of the group", he indicated.
