Charron was crowned Olympic weightlifting champion in the under 64 kg category by lifting 105 kg in the snatch and 131 kg in the clean and jerk last summer in Japan. Before this quadrennial meeting, she had also shone at the Pan American Games, where she triumphed by setting two new Canadian records.

Parrot, for its part, took the gold medal in acrobatic descent (slopestyle) and the bronze in the big jump (big air), this winter in China. The 28-year-old snowboarder had to overcome Hodgkin's lymphoma – a form of cancer – a few years earlier.

Olympic gold medalists Valérie Maltais (long track speed skating, team pursuit) and Marie-Philip Poulin (ice hockey) also won the Mauritius Partner of the Year and Team Sport Athlete awards respectively.
