Metro Red Line service suspended due to backpack on rail at Hollywood station

A backpack was found today on an energized rail at a Metro Red Line Station beneath a busy Hollywood tourist zone, disrupting train service and vehicle traffic in the area during the afternoon commuter rush.

The backpack was found about 4:20 p.m. at the Hollywood/Highland Station, according to the Sheriff’s Transit Policing Division.

The station was evacuated, rail service was halted and Hollywood Boulevard was closed between Highland Avenue and Orange Drive.

Service on the Red Line was suspended between the Universal/Studio City and Hollywood/Western stations and bus shuttles were called in, according to Metro.

The sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail was sent to investigate.

Metro tweeted just after 6:45 p.m. that its Hollywood/Highland station had been opened.

“Trains currently sharing NoHo-bound track at Hollywood/Highland & Hollywood/Vine,” Metro said.
