Montreal: Molotov cocktail thrown at a downtown building

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) is investigating an arson attack that targeted a downtown building on Sunday morning.

The police were alerted by a call to 911 which reported around 5 a.m. a business on fire in a building located on boulevard de Maisonneuve Est, near rue Saint-Timothée.

The firefighters dispatched to the scene quickly brought the fire under control, before noticing the presence of an incendiary object thrown against the window of the establishment. Accelerant would have been used, said Raphaël Bergeron, spokesperson for the SPVM.

The damage to the building is minor, due to the quick action of the firefighters. A security perimeter has been erected and the stage is now protected. Investigators and forensic identification specialists are on hand to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
