Montreal: the opposition wants a metro to Bois-Franc

The official opposition in Montreal urges the government of Quebec to extend the western branch of the orange metro line and make it “its new priority”, so that it goes to the Bois-Franc station.

This, while the commissioning of the Metropolitan Express Network (REM) in Bois-Franc is scheduled for 2024.

“Now that the government has saved the blue metro line extension project by securing the project schedule and costs, it is imperative to define these same guidelines for the extension of the orange metro line to the Bois station. -Franc,” said Alain DeSousa, mayor of the borough of Saint-Laurent.

In May, the government announced the establishment of a project office to study the implementation of a “structuring” mode of transport in the axis of the orange line of the metro. The project, whose form is to be defined, would leave from the Côte-Vertu metro station to go to the north of Laval.

The party had already filed a motion with the city council, in 2019, to demand that the metro go to the Bois-Franc station.

On the side of the municipal administration, the opposition is accused of “recycling” one of its demands.

“For years, the mayor and member of our team have been making interventions and requests from the government to move this file forward,” said Marikym Gaudreault, press officer in the mayor’s office.

She recalls that discussions have already begun on the file, with the creation of a working group involving the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM), the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Société de transport de Laval ( STL).

“Our administration is delivering the goods for the metro expansion as we have seen with the extension of the blue line and we are aiming for the same success with the orange line,” added Ms. Gaudreault.
