The Palais des congrès de Montréal will host a major international conference on lithium batteries, which will bring together more than 1,600 researchers and students who are experts in the field, in 2026.

“The selection committee of the International Meeting on Lithium Batteries (IMLB) has officially accepted the candidacy of the Palais des congrès de Montréal,” said the Palais in a press release on Monday.

This “world-class” event in the field of lithium batteries will take place in 2026 and should bring together more than 1,600 researchers and students from all continents.

“This conference will showcase the Quebec and Canadian ecosystem, and its battery component supply chain, as well as the emphasis we are placing on the green circular economy in this area,” said Dr. Karim Zaghib, research scientist. and a professor at Concordia University who is the instigator of Montreal's candidacy. The latter was also named president of the IMLB 2026.

“For Tourisme Montréal, this news is very welcome! It once again consolidates Montreal's leading position as a city for conventions and business meetings. I see our metropolis not only being recognized as a welcoming city, but also as a first-rate university center, at the forefront of green energy,” said Yves Lalumière, President and CEO, Tourisme Montréal.

The Palais des Congrès also estimates that the IMLB should generate more than $4 million in tourist spending.

Montreal has already hosted this conference in 2010.
