Claude Duplain, the mayor of Saint-Raymond, feared Sunday evening that the city center would be affected, but the river returned to its normal level later in the evening.

“The flood which took place a little higher in the plains, the fields and all that, it would have passed in the city center”, explains the mayor.

The municipality had however prepared by declaring a state of emergency which has now been lifted.

Mr. Duplain still foresees “a painful spring”.

Several experts are monitoring the river closely and compiling information to prevent future flooding.
