Mother killed, daughter wounded in Joliet shooting

A shooting late Sunday in Joliet wounded three people including a woman who was killed and her 4-year-old daughter who was grazed by a bullet, police said.

Joliet police responded at 10:35 p.m. to Washington Street just east of Richards Street for a call of shots fired.

Joliet Police Department Deputy Chief Alan Roechner said officers found a 22-year-old man covered in blood who told them he had been shot near his elbow. Officers then found outside of a vehicle the man's sister who was unresponsive and bleeding from the head.

The woman was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet where she was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. She was identified as Dinesty Tillman, according to the Will County coroner's office.

Inside the vehicle, police found a 4-year-old girl with a graze wound to her knee and a 2-month-old child who was not injured, Roechner said.

The 22-year-old man and the girl were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Roechner said Tillman was the mother of the children found inside of the vehicle.

As of Monday morning, police did not have any information about the shooter. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Joliet Police Department at (815) 724-3020.
