Munich airport cancels 650 flights until midday due to freezing rain

MADRID, 5 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Munich airport (Germany) decided this Tuesday to cancel 650 flights until noon due to freezing rain that occurred this morning and left the runways frozen, as announced on its social networks and reported by the German Press Agency. (DPA).

Thus, its operations resumed at 12:00 p.m. after the strong winter storm paralyzed takeoffs and landings in the morning, since flights were suspended from 6:00 a.m. on December 5.

The operational areas were thawed in the first half of the day. However, some flights will also have to be canceled for the rest of the day for safety reasons.

In addition, the aerodrome advised during the day that passengers contact their airline before traveling to the airport to find out the status of their flight.

The new interruption occurs just 48 hours after the airport resumed operations after two days of closure due to heavy snowfall.

The airport Christmas market will be closed until Friday the 8th and the skating rink will remain closed. The market is located in a square between the two terminals and one of its main attractions is the ice rink in the center as well as the large Christmas tree that is perfectly illuminated and decorated and reaches 15 meters in height.
