MADRID, 19 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The streaming audiovisual content production and distribution company Netflix recorded profits of 1,398 million dollars (1,419 million euros) in the third quarter of 2022, which represents a decline of 3.5% compared to the result of the same period of the previous year, at the same time that it has beaten its forecasts of new subscribers by gaining 2.4 million and surpassing the level of 223 million subscribers worldwide.

"After a challenging first semester, we believe that we are on the way to accelerate growth again," the multinational highlighted in the presentation of its accounts, adding that in November it will launch its new plan with announcements in 12 countries, including Spain.

Between July and September, Netflix added 2.41 million new subscribers, more than double what it had estimated it would achieve. In this way, the total number of subscribers of the company has reached 223.09 million, with an increase of 9.5 million compared to the same period of 2021.

Most of these new subscribers came from its international markets, mainly Asia and the Pacific. In the United States and Canada, the platform gained 110,000 new subscribers, for a total of 73.39 million; while in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 560,000 people joined Netflix, reaching 73.53 million subscribers.

In Latin American countries, the firm recorded 39.94 million subscribers, which represents 320,000 new registrations in the quarter, while in Asia-Pacific it recorded 1.43 million new paying users, reaching 36.23 million .

The income obtained by Netflix in the third quarter was 7,926 million dollars (8,047 million euros), 5.9% more than in the same period of the previous year.

In the whole of the first nine months of 2022, Netflix's net profit was 4,436.6 million dollars (4,505 million euros), which represents a decrease of 1.6% compared to the same interval of 2021, after increase its turnover by 8%, to 23,763.5 million dollars (24,128 million euros).

Looking ahead to the last quarter of 2022, the Los Gatos company expects to gain 4.5 million subscribers, reaching a total of 227.59 million worldwide. Likewise, it forecasts that its quarterly income will increase by 0.9%, to 7,776 million dollars (7,895 million euros).

In this sense, the multinational has warned of the adverse impact on its accounts related to the dollar exchange rate, which has strengthened against most currencies at a "historic" rate, for which Netflix estimates that this appreciation of the ' green ticket' will subtract around 1,000 million dollars (1,015 million euros) from income in the whole of the year.

Likewise, the company has explained that it will increasingly focus on revenue as the main metric, which will be particularly important in the face of 2023 as it develops new sources of income, such as advertising and shared payment, where membership is only one component. of revenue growth.

Thus, beginning with the results of the fourth quarter of 2022, which will be published in January 2023, the company will continue to offer forecasts on revenue, operating income, operating margin, net income and earnings per share, but not on paying subscribers.
