Sherbrooke police want to warn the population of an increase in vehicle thefts during the month of December, while nine vehicles were allegedly stolen.

Between December 4 and December 30, the Service de police de Sherbrooke (SPS) recorded nine vehicle thefts, including four in the last week alone.

A total of three 2022 Jeep Wranglers, four 2021-2022 Kia Sorentos, a 2020 Honda CR-V and a 2022 Honda Pilot were stolen.

“Thefts occur mainly at night when vehicles are parked at the owner's home. Investigations are underway in all cases,” the SPS said in a statement Friday morning.

The police thus advise citizens to keep the vehicle keys away from the main entrance to prevent suspects from copying them with the help of a computer system and to properly illuminate their residence entrance.

She also reminds that residences that have surveillance cameras can register with the SPS, to help advance investigations if a crime occurs in the neighborhood.
