Non-hotel overnight stays were close to 6 million in January, with an increase of 23.7%, driven by foreigners

Overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation in Spain (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) exceeded 5.9 million last January, compared to 4.7 million registered in the same month of 2022, which means an increase of 23.7%, according to data published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

This boost was a consequence, above all, of the 31.9% increase in overnight stays made by foreigners. Those of the Spanish increased in the first month of the year by 5.5% compared to January 2022.

Of the almost 6 million overnight stays, 1.5 million were made by residents of Spain, 2.5 million by visitors from the EU and the remaining 1.8 million overnight stays by visitors from the rest of the world.

The average stay was 5.3 overnight stays per traveler, according to data from the Statistical Institute.

With regard to prices, those registered in tourist apartments grew by 7.2%, campsites by 5% and rural tourism accommodation by 6.9%.
