His National Hockey League team, the Vancouver Canucks, made the announcement on Twitter on Saturday. His recovery period is estimated at four to six weeks.

Ekman-Larsson and Sweden collapsed in the quarter-finals against Canada. The 30-year-old guard had two assists in six games during the tournament.

In his first season with the Canucks, Ekman-Larsson scored five goals and had 24 assists in 79 games. He didn't reach the 30-point plateau for the first time in his career when playing at least 50 games.

The former Arizona Coyotes will earn an average of $8.25 million a year until 2027.
