The Crown filed criminal contempt charges on Thursday against Molly Wickham, a leading figure in a movement to stop construction of the Coastal Gaslink pipeline in northern British Columbia, according to News 24.

Three other protesters have also been charged, according to a decision released Thursday by the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Molly Wickham, also known as Sleydo, is one of the main figures in the fight between certain members of the Wet’suwet’en First Nations and the company TC Energy. She lives with her family on traditional territory near the construction of the gas pipeline.

In November 2021, Molly Wickham was arrested along with around 20 other protesters after blocking the road for construction workers, despite a court injunction which strictly prohibited them from obstructing the works. This blockage has also prevented the supply of water and supplies to about 500 workers on the site, said Coastal Gaslink.

The company's lawyer, Kevin O'Callaghan, notably claimed that the movement wanted to obtain significant media coverage by blocking the roads.
